Nattokinase is an all-natural, potent enzyme that is extracted from natto and highly purified. Natto is a fermented soybean food that has been consumed in Japan for over 1000 years. Nattokinase has been the subject of many studies, including human and animal trials. In 1980, researchers discovered that nattokinase demonstrated a positive effect on blood flow in vitro. Nattokinase may also support cardiovascular health.*

 

To Clot or Not to Clot: A Delicate Balance. Clotting is natural and normal; it’s important when you cut yourself with a sharp kitchen knife, but much less desirable if it happens inside your blood vessels, heart or brain. In a healthy person, there should be a delicate balance between clotting to stop bleeding and fibrinolysis (dissolution of clots).

 

Hypercoagulation: If your balance tends toward the clotting side, your blood is prone to hypercoagulation (clotting too much and too easily). Some people tend to have “thick” blood – packed with red cells and platelets. One such condition is called polycythemia vera. Nattokinase May Help Prevent Hypercoagulation because of its potent fibrinolytic enzymes and restore a normal balance to hypercoagulated blood.

 

NOTE: Although Nattokinase is a powerful fibrinolytic, it is a nutritional supplement meant for regular use, and is not meant to substitute for hospital-based emergency interventions like tPA, streptokinase or urokinase, which are used to dissolve blood clots during a heart attack.
